India tests underwater-launched missile

New Delhi : In a significant development of its military potential, India Sunday successfully tested a medium-range ballistic missile launched from underwater. The Defence Research and Development Organisation-developed BO5 was launched from an underwater pontoon in the Bay of Bengal off the coast of Visakhapatnam. "The missile launched from a pontoon, was tested for the full range and met all the mission objectives," a DRDO statement said here. "All the parameters of the vehicle were monitored by radar. Defence research centre set up in Chennai

Chennai : Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), India's premier defence research organisation, has set up a research and innovation centre at Indian Institute of Technoogy-Madras (IIT-M) Research Park to pursue directed research, an official said Friday. The centre was inaugurated by V.K.Saraswat, scientific advisor to the defence minister, and the secretary, defence research and development, here Friday. According to DRDO, the research and innovation centre is for giving new impetus to pursue directed research in close association with academia, industry and research scholars. India tests nuclear-capable Prithvi-II missile

Bhubaneswar : India Thursday successfully test-fired its indigenously developed nuclear-capable ballistic Prithvi-II missile from a test range in Odisha, a defence official said. The 350-km range surface-to-surface missile blasted off at about 9.20 a.m. from launch complex number three at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) of Chandipur-on-sea in Balasore district, around 230 km from here. "The mission was successful," ITR director M.V.K.V. Prasad told IANS. India successfully tests n-capable missile

Bhubaneswar : India Wednesday carried out a successful test of its nuclear-capable surface-to-surface Agni-I missile from a military base in Odisha, an official said. The intermediate-range ballistic missile, which can strike a target 700 km away, was tested from a facility on Wheeler Island near Dhamra in Bhadrak district, 170 km from here. Bhubaneswar : India Friday test−fired a ballistic missile interceptor from a defence base in Odisha as part of its efforts to create a shield against incoming enemy missiles, defence officials said. The indigenous Advanced Air Defence (AAD) interceptor missile was fired from Wheeler Island off the Odisha coast near Dhamra in Bhadrak district, about 170 km from here. DRDO, PM’s adviser websites come under cyber attack

New Delhi : Websites of key Indian government organisations, including an advisor to the prime minister and the defence establishment DRDO, reportedly came under cyber attacks Wednesday night, leading to their shutdown for a while, government sources said Thursday. The government sources said some "suspicious and unwanted" activity was observed on these websites, maintained by the National Informatics Centre (NIC), following which these were shut down for a couple of hours. New Delhi : Taken by surprise over the arrest of one of its researchers in Karnataka for links with Pakistan-based terror outfits, India''s defence research agency Friday announced that it was initiating disciplinary action against him under government rules. Embraer-based airborne warning system reaches India

New Delhi : India s first indigenous Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) system based on a fully-modified Embraer aircraft has reached Bangalore from Brazil, ahead of integration of DRDO-developed mission systems and flight trials.
