Fire at DRDO complex, no loss of life reported (Lead)

Bhubaneswar : A fire broke out at a magazine storage area of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) at Chandipur in Odisha Monday. It was brought under control by fire fighters in five hours, officials said. The fire erupted around 4 a.m. at the storage area of the Proof and Experimental Establishment (PXE), in Balasore district, about 230 km from state capital Bhubaneswar. Second test of Agni-V missile by May end

DRDO fires on towards MIRV capability

New Delhi : India''s premier Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is firing on in several directions with the work on hand involving MIRVs (multiple independently-targetable reentry vehicles) and improvements in missiles, aircraft, tanks and artillery. Langkawi : India is unlikely to bill Russia for the delay in the delivery of the refitted aircraft carrier Vikramaditya caused by engine problems last year, said Viktor Komardin, deputy general director of Russia''s state arms exporter Rosoboronexport. HAL-Rolls-Royce production unit opened in Bangalore

Bangalore A joint venture of the state-run Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) and Rolls-Royce of Britain, International Aerospace Manufacturing Ltd (IAML) unveiled its production facility here Friday. Set up with an investment of Rs.135 crore ($25 million), the 50:50 venture will produce components for the Trent family of aero engines and compressor parts for marine and energy gas turbines. "The production facility incorporates the latest manufacturing techniques of Rolls-Royce and has created jobs for about 100 Indian engineers," HAL managing director K. India tests indigenous multi-barrel rocket launcher

Bhubaneswar : India Thursday successfully tested indigenously-built multi-barrel rocket launcher ''Pinaka'' from a defence base in Odisha, an official said. The multi-barrel rocket launching system (MBRLS) was tested from the Proof and Experimental Establishment (PXE) in Chandipur-on-sea in Balasore district, around 230 km from state capital Bhubaneswar. Capable of firing 12 rockets in a single salvo with 1.2 tonnes of high explosives within 40 seconds, the Pinaka system has already been inducted into the armed forces and was used in the field during the 1999 Kargil war. India plans missile test ranges in Andhra, Andamans

New Delhi : India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) will set up missile test ranges in Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Andhra Pradesh and the process has been initiated to acquire land, the government said Wednesday.
