Boeing mulls assembling helicopters in India

New Delhi: Global aircraft manufacturing company Boeing on Friday said it is looking at setting up a chopper assembly line in India.According to a top official of the company, the assembly line will either be for the Apache combat helicopter or the Chinook heavy-lift chopper. Recently, Boeing closed a deal to sell 22 Apache combat helicopters and 15 Chinook CH-47F heavy-lift copters to India. Nirbhay cruise missile fails midway

Bhubaneswar: India's indigenous surface-to-surface cruise missile Nirbhay nose-dived midway after it test fired in Odisha on Friday. According to Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) sources, the missile was launched from the Chandipur Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Balasore district at 11.38 a.m. Although the take off was successful amid repeated disruptions of countdown, the missile missed the target after 11 minutes after it was test fired, said the sources. Airline norms to fly abroad needs recast: Minister

New Delhi: Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju on Thursday said the existing norms for Indian carriers to fly abroad needed to be recast, as it was not only dated but also restricting the potential of Indian airline industry. Currently, the norms prescribe that only those carriers that have been in operation for five years and have a fleet of 20 aircraft can fly abroad. Uttarakhand, Centre discuss improving air connectivity

Dehradun: Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat had wide ranging discussions on Thursday, including on ways to improve air connectivity in the hill state. Abu Dhabi : Two Swiss pilots will attempt to take their solar-powered aircraft around the globe, to demonstrate the promise of clean energy and would stop over at India also, among various countries, during the flight. False bomb alarm at Rome airport

Rome : Air traffic was disrupted for hours at the Fiumicino Rome airport in Italy Wednesday evening due to a false bomb alarm on a Niki flight bound for Vienna, media reported. Bangkok : Rescue teams Thursday were focusing their efforts on recovering the tail of the AirAsia plane that crashed into the Java Sea late last month with 162 people on board and extracting the black box flight recorders located in the tail section. AirAsia crash: Fifth large object found on seabed

Jakarta : Indonesia's search and rescue teams Sunday located a fifth large object on the seabed believed to be of a missing AirAsia plane. National Search and Rescue Agency head Bambang Soelistyo said the object - 9.8 metres long, 1.1 metres wide and 0.4 metre high - has been located on the seabed. Nine ships have been sent to the area to continue the search, Soelistyo was quoted as saying by Xinhua. Singapore Airlines to operate A380 aircraft from May

New Delhi : Singapore Airlines Monday said it will deploy Airbus A380 - the world's largest passenger aircraft - on select routes in India from May. "A380 superjumbo will operate daily to both Mumbai and New Delhi with effect from May 30, 2014, taking over from two daily flights that currently serve each city using smaller Boeing 777s," the airline said in a statement.
