N-capable Agni-V missile canister launch successful

Bhubaneswar : India Saturday successfully conducted the first canister-based trial of its nuclear-capable Agni-V missile, which is capable of hitting targets over 5,000 km away. Prime Minister Narendra Modi called it "a prized asset". The surface-to-surface missile, which has the ability to hit targets deep inside China, was fired from a mobile vehicle at the Inner Wheeler Island launch site in Bhadrak district, about 200 km from Odisha capital Bhubaneswar, officials said. Parrikar wants younger replacement for DRDO chief

New Delhi : A younger person should head the Defence Research & Development Organisation, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said Wednesday. Parrikar added that it was on his recommendation that DRDO chief Avinash Chander's contractual term was ended. Congress leader Digvijaya Singh questioned the sudden decision. Parrikar, however, said there was no "controversy" in Chander's removal. "I recommended that a person on contract should not be occupying such a senior position. DRDO employee attempts suicide on Delhi Metro track

New Delhi : A DRDO employee is in critical condition after he attempted suicide by jumping before a Delhi Metro train in the city Thursday, police said. Rajiv Kumar, who works with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), jumped on the tracks at Udyog Bhawan Metro station as a train bound for Jahangirpuri entered the station. The incident occurred at 12.23 p.m. Kumar was rushed to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital where doctors described his condition as critical, a police official said, adding that no suicide note was found on him. DRDO products can go to friendly countries: India

New Delhi : The DRDO is not involved in the export of military equipment but some of its developed products and systems can be sold to "friendly countries", the government said Tuesday. The Defence Research and Development Organisation has been mandated towards making the country independent of foreign technology in the areas of defence, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said. India, Israel successfully test long-range missile

New Delhi : India and Israel Monday successfully tested the Long Range Surface to Air Missile (LRSAM) in Israel, an official statement said. The test was done by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) in the presence of scientists of India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and officials of the Indian armed forces. The LRSAM system has been jointly developed by DRDO and IAI Israel. Electronic manufacturing policy unveiled in UP

Lucknow : The Uttar Pradesh government has unveiled a new electronic manufacturing policy which will enable mass production of cell phones, DVDs and computers with other products, an official said Saturday. Inspired by the Chinese model, the policy got approval of the state cabinet after Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav pushed for it. In the initial phase, the government plans to establish and promote small electronic manufacturing clusters. LR-SAM to be tested September

The much awaited Long Range Surface-to-Air-Missile (LR-SAM) being jointly built by India and Israel will be ‘hot tested’ next month in September .
