UN Security Council adopted 50 resolutions in 2023

United Nations, Jan 18, The UN Security Council (UNSC) adopted 50 resolutions and failed to adopt 10 draft ones in 2023, the world body said. According to the Highlights of Security Council Practice 2023, the Council also adopted one amendment and six presidential statements and issued 18 notes by the council president and 22 letters by the president, reports Xinhua news agency. UNSC members also issued 34 press statements. The council failed to adopt four sets of amendments. UN Security Council renews sanctions regime on Al-Shabaab, lifts arms embargo on Somali govt

United Nations, Dec 2, The UN Security Council adopted two separate resolutions to renew the sanctions regime on Somalia-based Al-Shabaab and to lift the arms embargo on the Somali government. Resolution 2713 decides to renew till December 15, 2024, the sanctions regime on Al-Shabaab, including the authorisation for maritime interdiction to enforce the embargo on illicit arms imports, the charcoal export ban, and the improvised explosive device components ban. Seoul, July 19, North Korea fired two short-range ballistic missiles into the East Sea on Wednesday, after the arrival of an American nuclear ballistic missile submarine here and the inaugural session of a new South Korea-US security dialogue, Seoul's military said. UN Security Council decides to end peacekeeping mission in Mali

United Nations, July 1, The United Nations Security Council has adopted a resolution to end the mandate of the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in Mali (MINUSMA).
