UN nuclear watchdog to increase presence in Ukraine

Vienna, Jan 14 (IANS) The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has said that it would step up its presence in Ukraine to help prevent a nuclear accident during the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. The IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said in a statement that he would travel to Ukraine next week to "establish a continuous presence of nuclear safety and security experts" at all of Ukraine's nuclear power facilities, Xinhua news agency reported. After brief operation, one n-plant of MAPS shut down

Chennai: After restarting power generation for some time on Sunday, the Unit 2 at Madras Atomic Power Station (MAPS) belonging to Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) stopped operation due to steam leak.According to Power System Operation Corporation Ltd (POSOCO), the 220 MW Unit 2 of MAPS stopped generation at 4.35 p.m. on Sunday due to "H/T to attend steam leak". DRDO scientists reach Gujarat port to inspect Chinese ship

New Delhi: Nuclear scientists from the DRDO reached Kandla port in Gujarat on Monday to inspect a Chinese ship carrying a machine used to launch ballistic missiles which has been detained there.The ship enroute Port Qasim in Karachi was trying to pass on an autoclave as an industrial dryer. A team from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) have found that the autoclave was used to make the composite lining for solid-fuel ballistic missiles. 440-MW of Nuclear power plants in TN, Karnataka soon

Chennai: The second 1,000 MW nuclear power unit at Kudankulam is expected to restart power generation on October 7, the Power System Operation Corporation Ltd (Posoco) saod. Chennai: The second 1,000 MW unit at the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KNPP) will restart generation soon, said a senior official of the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL). Cabinet approves 10 nuclear reactors for power generation

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the setting up of 10 indigenous Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs) for nuclear power generation. "The cabinet has approved to install 10 indigenously built PWHRs," Union Minister Piyush Goyal said at a press conference after the Cabinet meeting presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Goyal, who is Union Power and Coal Minister, said the new PWHRs will generate 7,000 MW power. At present India generates 6,780 MW from nuclear power. Rosatom hopes for earlier finalisation of site for six more reactors

Chennai: Russian State Nuclear Energy Corporation or Rosatom hopes the Indian government will finalise the second site to house six more of its reactors with a capacity to generate 1,170 MW each, said a top official of the group company.
