India and Pakistan in the past have held 12 rounds of talks withoutsolving the issues related to demilitarisation of Siachen. The mainissue that prevented an agreement in the last rounds was that Pakistandid not agree to authentication of the present positions of troops ofboth the sides on the ground. Pakistan did not want to officiallyacknowledge the existing positions of India or Pakistani troops for some dubious reasons. India revives project to acquire Japanese US-2i amphibious aircraft worth Rs 10,000 crore

New Delhi: The leaders of India and Japan will discuss ways of taking forward the $1.65-billion US-2i amphibian search and rescue aircraft deal, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits the country later this month. Highly-placed sources told FE, “On Monday, ahead of the India-Japan annual summit, there was a meeting in the ministry of defence to discuss issues related to the viability of acquiring the US-2i aircraft for the Indian Navy and Coast Guard.” The Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard are seeking 12-18 of these platforms to expand their reach and capability.
