PM Modi meets Iranian Prez, several African leaders on sidelines of BRICS summit

New Delhi, Aug 25, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on Thursday, on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Johannesburg. The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields, including trade and investment, connectivity, energy and counter-terrorism. Both sides agreed to fast-track infrastructure cooperation, including the Chabahar project. The leaders also exchanged views on regional developments, including Afghanistan. Six nations to join BRICS grouping from Jan 1, 2024

New Delhi, Aug 24, The BRICS grouping on Thursday announced that six nations -- Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Argentina, the UAE and Saudi Arabia -- will be included as full time members. South Africa president Cyril Ramaphosa announced this at the BRICS summit. The membership will be effective from January 1, 2024.
