Japan’s ruling LDP leads in popularity ahead of general election: Poll

Tokyo, Oct 14 (IANS) Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) remains the most popular choice among Japanese voters ahead of the general election on October 27, results from a local media survey showed. In a nationwide telephone survey conducted over the weekend by Kyodo News, 26.4 per cent of the respondents indicated they plan to vote for the LDP, led by Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, in the proportional representation segment. Lithuanian opposition party wins 1st round of parliamentary elections

Vilnius, Oct 14 (IANS) Lithuanian Social Democratic Party won the first round of the parliamentary elections, securing 19.36 per cent of votes and 18 out of 70 seats, preliminary data from the Central Electoral Commission showed on Monday morning. The ruling conservative Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrats won 17.96 per cent of the vote and 17 seats in the parliament, reports Xinhua news agency. Sri Lanka begins accepting nominations for parliamentary election

Colombo, Oct 4 (IANS) Sri Lankan election officials have begun accepting nominations for the upcoming parliamentary election scheduled for November 14, Commissioner General of Elections Saman Sri Ratnayake announced on Friday. Ratnayake said that nominations would be accepted at district secretaries' offices in the country's 22 electoral districts from Friday until noon on October 11, Xinhua news agency reported. PM Modi travels in Ahmedabad Metro after inaugurating 2nd phase
