Temporary Duties: Musings of a Lady General

On competing MBBS, there is a period of mandatory internship of one year, before one is able to register as a full-fledged doctor, and the excitement knows no bounds as you are now also eligible to go independently on a temporary duty (TD) besides other trsponsibilities. To clarify this TD; in the Armed Forces, there exists a functional role called “temporary duty”, wherein you are relocated to another station to relieve a colleague going on leave or posting. Musings of a Lady General

It was the 3rd of March, 1980; a date etched in my mind forever. The date on which I changed from a “Lady Doctor” to a “Lady MO” (medical officer), a most coveted title in the Indian Army. The term actually gives you a great feeling; as it is a three in one combo of a lady, a doctor and an officer !
